Inspired by Edna St. Vincent Millay’s notion of “beauty bare,” Susan Kiefer explores beauty through geometry — not stripped down, but intensified.
Her earliest geometric abstracts were expressive, with loose edges, layered textures, and bold color. Over time, her practice has evolved toward clean, hard edges and powerful minimalist forms that embrace the clarity of simplicity.
Kiefer is drawn to geometric shapes as inventions unique to human thought. While Albers and Mondrian honored the square, her work gravitates to the circle — the timeless symbol of perfection, balance, the sun, and the earth.
Through the idealization and distillation of shapes, Susan Kiefer offers a meditative visual language: geometric abstraction that invites calm, clarity, and quiet strength.
